you’ll remember our first post on Kolt13 a couple of weeks ago… well, we are delighted that the wait has not been too long a wait for us to be able to enjoy his new track, Lesson One, a solid piece of electro sound, broken in bits, and sawn back together with a kickass melodic thread… not a lot more to say except that we absolutely love it and that we’re just totally addicted to everything Kolt13 produces coz it’s just so freekin’ good…
ah, and as a bonus ball, we’re also posting his remix of A Girl And A Gun’s Send More Cops, which won the best remix competition last month and which you can download exclusively here…
this is the first of many posts about what’s for us one of the freshest, hottest emerging piece of french talent in the electro scene at the moment…
at first Kolt13 may strike you as your penny-a-dozen neu dance acts, but as you listen to the his own work and his remixes - and he’s rather prolific at that! check his remix page- you start to appreciate the simple complexity of his production, with enough to keep your ears filled and your brain busy but all working on top of a simple yet masterful harmonic loop skeleton, working very much like a top notch track by Mr Oizo… with a previous background in hiphop, if these are Kolt13’s first few steps into electro, we can’t wait to listen to what he’ll be doing in a few months! make sure to check his ’space for more!
as a starter, try the sweet-n-sour, highly addictive Thunder… starts with a bang and goes with a melodic surprise… moreish!
then as a main course we suggest his rework of The Kickdrums‘ Love is a Drug… delighfully synth-filled, chunky, warming, full bodied, best put on your iPod immeditely after Thunderand kept on repeat… absolutely perfect... long live Kolt13!
this is so pipin’ hot that’s almost burnt our fingers… it has just been released today on dutch dance label Playectra and it’s just been released on Beatport like a minute ago…
but we know you were gaggin’ for a bit of this, so we’ve gone straight for the B side, which is the Owl Vision remix, who reworks the original givin’ it a good stir, pumping it, chopping it and addin’ plenty of spice… the results are hotter than a vindaloo and sweeter than tiramisu! the vague initial hint of minimal beat goes out of the window after a few seconds, and as the track sets in, there’s no room for boredom…
another absolutely brilliant piece of work from Owl Vision… get used to hearing his name again, and again, and again in 2009 and beyond…
